You think poverty
Is a choice
But I have seen the other side
I can tell you
Poverty is a dictatorship
Ruled over by the rich
You think poverty
Is something you can work way out of
But I can tell you
That poverty is a religion
Its doctrine sinks its teeth
Into the masses
It rules through humility
And humiliation
And you can say this nation
Is one of the best in the world
But down here at its base
I can see
That the nation is crumbling
And slowly backsliding
Tumbling,
Into poverty
